Biografía
Dr. Ciro Amodio is an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a cardiac surgeon in Miami, Florida, specializing in advanced cardiac and aortic surgery in South Florida.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Federico II in Naples, Italy, and completed his residency in cardiac surgery at Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna and at St. Antonius Ziekenhuis in the Netherlands. He subsequently pursued advanced fellowship training in aortic surgery and adult congenital heart surgery at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital (Barts Heart Centre) in London, one of the highest-volume aortic centers in Europe.
Prior to joining the University of Miami, Dr. Amodio served as a Clinical Associate in Aortic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, where he specialized in complex aortic interventions and perioperative management, training under the mentorship of Eric Roselli.
Dr. Amodio’s clinical expertise includes thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms and dissections, aortic root and arch surgery, valve-sparing operations, the Ross procedure, and frozen elephant trunk (FET) techniques, as well as aortic and mitral valve repair, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), atrial fibrillation surgery, and reoperative cardiac surgery. He is particularly focused on advanced aortic reconstruction and organ protection strategies in complex cardiovascular procedures.
An active academic surgeon, Dr. Amodio has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Vascular Surgery, and the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. His research focuses on improving outcomes in acute and chronic aortic dissection, refining frozen elephant trunk techniques, and advancing myocardial and end-organ protection in high-risk cardiac surgery.
Dr. Amodio has presented his work at major international meetings, including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), and the International Society for Mechanical Circulatory Support (ISMCS). He serves as a reviewer for multiple high-impact journals and is actively involved in surgical education and mentorship within the University of Miami cardiothoracic training program.
In recognition of his academic and clinical contributions, Dr. Amodio received the 2025 Carlson–Mouly Award from the Cleveland Clinic Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Amodio speaks Italian, English, and Spanish and provides care to a diverse Miami and international patient population, offering a global perspective combined with cutting-edge cardiovascular care in South Florida.
