Felipe A. Medeiros, M.D., Ph.D. is the Rodgers Endowed Professor of Ophthalmology and Vice Chair of Research at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI). As the Vice Chair of Research, Dr. Medeiros oversees the team of basic, translational, and clinical science researchers dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of eye diseases at Bascom Palmer.

Dr. Medeiros is a world-renowned clinician, surgeon, and researcher. Patients from throughout the world seek his medical and surgical expertise. He has been recently elected by The Ophthalmologist magazine as the 3rd most influential ophthalmologist in the world. His research spans multiple domains, including developing innovative methods and technologies for diagnosing and managing glaucoma, using artificial intelligence to enhance eye disease screening and monitoring, and advancing neuroprotection and neuroregeneration in glaucoma. He has been a pioneer in developing groundbreaking treatments, serving as the principal investigator on clinical trials that led to the FDA approval of new glaucoma treatments. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 6 books in ophthalmology. His publications have received over 30,000 citations making him one of the most cited scientists in his field, with an h-index of 95. His research has been continuously funded by the National Eye Institute and many other public and private institutions.

Dr. Medeiros has given dozens of invited keynote lectures worldwide and has received over 50 honors and awards worldwide, including the ARVO Cogan Award, one of the most prestigious awards in vision science. He is an associate editor for the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the ARVO TVST journal, and an elected member of the prestigious Glaucoma Research Society. He has trained numerous students, fellows and postdocs from many parts of the world.
