John Michael Bryant, MD

Dr. John Michael Bryant is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a member of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dr. Bryant specializes in the treatment of gastrointestinal and thoracic malignancies. His clinical practice integrates advanced radiation therapy techniques, including MRI-guided adaptive radiotherapy, to deliver precise, individualized care. With a background in electrical engineering, he leads a translational research program that develops and evaluates magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENPs) as novel tumor-targeted theranostic agents capable of integrating diagnostic imaging with targeted therapy. His research also explores applications of deep neural networks for real-time treatment adaptation and strategies to expand the use of precision radiation techniques for challenging and anatomically complex tumors.

Dr. Bryant earned his medical degree from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University and completed his residency in radiation oncology at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, where he served as Chief Resident and received the Louis B. Harrison Leadership Award and the RSNA Roentgen Resident Research Award. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and has secured both internal and external funding for his research. His work has led to the first in vivo demonstration of MENPs in a preclinical pancreatic cancer model, showing their ability to achieve MRI-based tumor localization and to generate a targeted ablative response through a remotely applied, electric-field–mediated mechanism. Dr. Bryant is committed to advancing multidisciplinary collaboration, mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists, and improving cancer outcomes through the integration of innovative technologies into clinical practice.
