Dr. Mariana Gil is a thoracic surgeon specializing in lung transplantation and extracorporeal life support (ECLS). She earned her Medical Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2011–2017) and subsequently completed her Residency in Thoracic Surgery and Lung Transplantation at Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro–Majadahonda (HUPHM) (2018–2023).

She pursued advanced clinical training through a Clinical Fellowship in Lung Transplantation and ECLS at the Toronto Lung Transplant Program (2023–2024), further honing her expertise in complex thoracic procedures and perioperative care for transplant patients. In 2025, she joined the University of Miami–Jackson Memorial Hospital as an Assistant Professor and Staff Thoracic Surgeon, where she integrates clinical practice, surgical education, and research.

Her international experience includes an Observership in Thoracic Surgery and Lung Transplantation at AKH Hospital, Medical University of Vienna (2022).

Dr. Gil is currently a PhD candidate at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Department of Surgery. Her doctoral research, “Impact and outcomes from extending cold ischemia time using donor lungs preservation at 10ºC,” investigates innovative strategies to optimize donor lung preservation and expand the donor organ pool, with the potential to improve transplantation outcomes globally.
